The Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) is the kids’ version of the most popular music event in Europe - Eurovision Song Contest.
Originally it was the competition for children between the ages of 8 and 15, however since 2007 the age limit has been narrowed and currently only children aged 10 to 15 (inclusive) on the day of the contest final are allowed to participate.
JESC is produced by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Thus, member broadcasters of the EBU may take part in the contest.
The purpose of the contest is centered about the idea to present of Europe as a whole, to promote young talents in the field of popular music by encouraging international competition among child artists.
Since 2004 Georgian Public Broadcasting has been the member of EBU and has an exclusive right to select Georgian participant for JESC.
Georgia took part in Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2007 for the first time. Georgian Participant, a 13-year-old Mariam Romelashvili qualified for the fourth place in the Contest, which was held in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Last year, Group “Wasps” from Georgia, with their song ,,Bzz” won the Sixth Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Lemesos, Cyprus.
In 2009 Group "Princesses" with song "Blue Bird" qualified for the 6th place in Kyiv, Ukraine.
